Newark and Sherwood District Council to decide on plans for housing development in Walesby
A parish council has strongly objected to plans to bring a housing development to a small village.
Applicant Nottingham Community Housing Association wants to build 19 houses and bungalows at land adjacent to Haughton Way in Walesby.
Newark and Sherwood District Council has received the application and said the site involves fields that do not appear to have any particular notable features.
The application seeks full planning permission for a total of 19 homes — 11 two-bed bungalows, three three-bed houses and five two-bed houses.
All of the properties are promoted as affordable.
Walesby Parish Council said it had no objection in principle, but does object to the type of properties that are to be built.
It said two-bed bungalows were prevalent in the village already, and the type of properties required were three to four-bedroom properties to allow families to move out of their two-bed properties in the village.
Planning officers at Newark and Sherwood District Council said: “Despite its positioning at the end of an existing residential cul-de-sac, the proposed development site is outside of a defined settlement boundary and within the open countryside.
“However, policy accepts the principle of rural exception sites for wholly affordable schemes which are adjacent to existing villages.
“Significant weight is attached to the benefits of the scheme in providing 19 affordable units to meet an identified need for the village and therefore the recommendation is for approval.”
Councillors will decide the fate of the application when they meet on Tuesday, April 12, at a planning meeting.
