Planning week of action to reduce general crime
A multi-agency week of action will take place on the Retford Road estate, Boughton, next week.
This is in a bid to reduce issues including fly tipping, graffiti and theft.
The event is being organised by the Bassetlaw, Newark and Sherwood Community Safety Partnership, to try to restore pride back to the estate.
Agencies including Nottinghamshire Police, Ollerton and Boughton Town Council, Newark and Sherwood District Council, Newark and Sherwood Homes, Nottinghamshire County Council, and Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service will be out in force to tackle problems identified by Boughton residents.
These include vandalism, fly tipping and littering, drug and alcohol misuses, burglary, underage drinking and general crime.
The event begins with the district council’s waste teams sweeping the streets along with the Litter Hit Squad from 8am on Tuesday.
At 10am the Boughton and Ollerton Tenants’ and Residents’ Association will welcome participants at the Dukeries Young People’s Centre at the Dukeries Complex.
The fire service will host a safety advisory event in the youth centre from 1pm on Tuesday.
On Wednesday the Graffiti Removal Team will begin work, and a bus will travel around the estate offering crime prevention advice.
Newark and Sherwood Homes will carry out inspections, and a councillor surgery will be held in the young people’s centre from 4pm to 6pm.
Trading Standards will deliver doorstep crime packs to residents.
From 11am to 1pm on Thursday, Crimestoppers will host a mobile telephone marking session in the youth centre.
A free collection of unwanted white goods will be held from 8am to noon. On Friday more fire safety sessions will be held in the youth centre.
The week will culminate with a free community event on the former women’s centre site at Stepnall Heights from 11am to 2.30pm.
Police horses will be in attendance and there will be a police dog demonstration.
Sports activities including a football tournament will be held at the leisure centre throughout the week.
Police and the Driving and Vehicle Licensing Agency will carry out spot checks on vehicles during the week.
