A.W. Lymn secure plans for new 27-acre cemetery to be built near Calverton

A planning application for a new cemetery has been given the green light

The plans were submitted by Nottinghamshire funeral directors, A.W. Lymn, to build its first cemetery near Calverton, with 17 acres of burial space within the 27-acre site as the business continues to expand.

It was agreed by Gedling Borough Council to extend the site — located off George’s Lane outside the village — to create a mixed traditional, natural and woodland burial ground as well as the erection of facilities building and associated car park.

The site forms part of A.W. Lymn’s plan to extend its offering as it continues to expand across the region, with a total of 27 funeral homes throughout Nottinghamshire and South Derbyshire.

The company's commercial director, Pete Clarson said: “We’re very pleased that the application has been accepted by the council, who were in unanimous support of our plans. We plan to create a multi-functional cemetery capable of supporting a variety of burial options, respecting the character of the site’s rural context, and enhancing the potential of the site for wildlife.”

The application also stated that visual screening of the site from the adjacent residential properties and golf course would be put in place.

For more than a century the family run business has been helping the bereaved in the region, saying that quality of service and value for money are at the heart of its ethos.

“This is the first cemetery the Lymn Rose family business will have owned, which is a significant step for us. We’re continuously looking for ways we can expand our service offering to those in the region and this cemetery would allow exactly that,” added Pete.
