Melior Land Ltd have submitted an application to Newark and Sherwood District Council to convert the first and second floor of the former Sir John Arderne Public House, on Church Street, to eight residential units, with bin store and services cupboard on the ground floor.

The Wetherspoons pub closed in August 2023, and the building was up for auction in September last year, but the lot was removed due to a lack of interest.

It was then sold privately prior to a second auction taking place in November.

The changes to the Grade-II listed building, according to the application, would see the removal of contemporary internal walls, fixtures and plant associated with its previous use as a pub, with a number of new window opening created, as well as four roof lights in units one to four.

One external wall will also be removed to bring an external space within the building.

A Preliminary Roost Assessment by the Bat Surveyor has found that there are several potential roosting features within the site. No direct observations of bats were made, but a second visit was recommended to complete the internal inspection and to confirm whether bats roost in the roofs.
