Plans to turn former Newark school into flats supported

Plans to transform a former Newark primary school building into eight apartments were supported.

The proposal for the old Christ Church Infant School on Victoria Street was backed by Newark Town Council’s planning committee.

The site has not been in use since July last year.

Each flat would contain one bedroom, with six also having a home office. None are allocated for affordable housing.

The former school opened a new purpose-built site at the Middlebeck housing development in September, leaving the former building empty.

The 1,174 sqm site would contain eight carparking spaces with no allocated spot for storing bicycles.

Members voted unanimously to support the application, which will now go before Newark and Sherwood District Council for decision.
