DL Training Ltd, near Newark Air Museum, to close for good after break-ins leave business with £35,000 bill

A plant training company has decided to shut its doors for good after several break-ins left it out of pocket.

DL Training Ltd, based near Newark Air Museum, was left with a bill of more than £35,000 after burglars targeted the site on three occasions.

The incidents saw doors crowbarred open before training equipment was stolen, including a computer and radio, diesel, jumpleads, batteries and even the wheels from the firm’s caravan.

The company, which has operated since 2011 and delivers plant and lifting courses, will cease training at the end of April.

“There have been three burglaries in total and that is why we are closing,” said David Lidster, of DL Training Ltd.

“We are going to honour what we have already got on for April but we will be closing at the end of that month.”

David said the forced closure would be a shame for the local and wider community, with people coming from all over the world to train at the plant, including Bahrain, Africa, Jordan, Dubai, and the US.

During the first burglary, around £10,000 worth of equipment was taken, followed by a £15,500 loss in the second break-in through stolen batteries and diesel.

The most recent incident was on Tuesday, February 25, where training equipment and resources worth more than £7,500 were taken in an overnight theft.

David said: “What they did was steel-saw the gate. They crowbarred and forced some doors open, and stole a computer and a radio out of a training room.

“They also took the wheels from a mobile caravan we have on-site, as well as a jumplead and other tools.”
