Point proved with paint
Dog owners in the Ollerton area are being urged to clean up after their pets as part of a drive to tackle fouling in local beauty spots.
Six rangers from the Forestry Commission will be on duty from Monday to spread the message about responsible dog ownership.
They will be at Ollerton Pit Wood, Boughton Brake and Sherwood Heath.
The scheme, which involves spray painting waste with different colours each day to expose how long it is left for, ends a week on Sunday.
All three sites are popular with dog walkers, but fouling has become a big problem.
The Forestry Commission says it creates potential health concerns as well as being unsightly.
A ranger, Amy Chandler, said: “We have put up bins but some choose to ignore these, while others who do bag the poop just leave bags on the ground or hanging in the trees.
“Essentially, we want to raise awareness and educate some dog owners that clearing up the mess is in everyone’s interest.
“We’ll be handing out bags and also spraying the poop we find in different colours for different days to highlight the problem.”
