Potwell Dyke causes flooding issues in Southwell

Rainfall has caused a dike to overflow its banks.

Potwell Dyke, Southwell, burst its banks last night causing flooding on Nottingham Road.

The road has since been closed by police.


Police confirmed that numerous roads have been closed because of the heavy rainfall, which is set to continue later today.

"Closures are for public safety due to the unknown conditions of the road," a spokesperson said.

"Inspection and clean up works will be taking place as soon as possible."

The following roads have been closed:

  • A612 Nottingham Road, Bracken Hurst College to Southwell.
  • West Gate, Southwell
  • Park Lane, Southwell
  • Beck Street, Thurgaton
  • Main Street, Woodborough
  • Main Street, Lambley
  • Mansfield Road/Turnpike, Halam
