Nottinghamshire Police investigating after two Newark town centre break-ins

Police have launched investigations after two Newark town centre shops were broken into over the past week.

Sometime between Saturday, December 28, and Monday, December 30, Dry Clean Plus on Bargate was again targeted, and was ransacked during the burglary.

The till and a charity box were taken from the premises.

A second break-in, which is not currently believed to be linked, saw the Children’s Air Ambulance Charity shop, in Saracen’s Head Yard, ransacked overnight between January 2 and today (January 3).

Cash was taken during the incident.

A Nottinghamshire Police spokesman said: “We’re in the process of investigating two reported break-ins at shops in Newark town centre.

“Both the till and a charity box were taken from a store in Bargate during a burglary.

“That incident took place at some point between 3pm on December 28 and 8.25am on December 30.

“We then received reports of a separate break-in at a shop in Saracens Head Yard, earlier today (January 3).

“Cash was taken while the till area was ransacked during the break-in, which is believed to have taken place overnight.

“There is no evidence at this stage to suggest the two incidents are linked.

“Investigations are ongoing into both, so we’d of course ask that anybody who witnessed what happened, has any footage of either incident, or has any information, to share it with the police.

“Information can be shared about either incident by calling 101, quoting incident 96 of December 30, 2024, or incident 129 of January 3, 2025.

“It can also be shared anonymously by calling Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
