Police aiming to reunite sentimental teddies and ornaments believed to be stolen from Balderton graves with their rightful owners
Police officers are trying to reunite sentimental items believed to have been stolen from graves with their rightful owners.
Several teddies and personalised ornaments have been recovered by the Balderton neighbourhood policing team.
Despite not receiving any theft reports, police launched an investigation and believe the objects were taken from graves at Balderton Cemetery between March 30 and June 15.
A 50-year-old woman suspected of carrying out the thefts has been voluntarily interviewed by police as part of their ongoing inquiries.
Officers have now teamed up with Balderton Parish Council to hold an event where those who have had items go missing from a loved one’s grave can hopefully be reunited with their belongings.
Neighbourhood officers have received lots of responses from families since putting out an appeal last week about the graveside thefts, and anyone who has had an item disappear from a loved one’s resting place at Balderton Cemetery is advised to attend the arranged handover event.
It will take place at William Ghent House, Wilfred Avenue, New Balderton, on Saturday, June 28, between 10am and 1pm.
Balderton Parish Council stated it was “saddened” to hear items had gone missing from the cemetery.
