Nottinghamshire Police officers visited Newark businesses as part of a licensing operation

Nottinghamshire Police visited 17 businesses in Newark as part of a licensing operation yesterday.

Six police officers and a licensing officer conducted licence checks, walk-throughs of businesses and drug wipe tests.

The operation ensures that bars, restaurants, pubs and clubs are operating safely and within the law.

Inspector Heather Sutton, district commander for Newark and Sherwood Police, said: “Licensing checks are just one of the many activities we undertake to protect the people of Newark.

“Nights out in Newark are generally very safe, and we want to make sure it stays that way.

"I’d like to thank local business for working with us so that this continues to be the case.”
