Newark-On-Sea to return to Newark Marketplace next week
The popular urban beach is returning to Newark Marketplace next week with a giant 18-metre surprise.
From Wednesday, August 7 until Monday, August 19, there will be plenty of activities, entertainment and performances to bring the beach and the sea closer to people.
Adding to the previous year’s fun, on Sunday, August 11, the 18-metre whale will return to the Marketplace with — The Plastic Ocean Show.
The giant whale brings to life a story of sea life adventure with puppets, comedy and music all within the whale.
Throughout the 12 days, there will be music, dance and circus skills and new this year, a sand sculpture.
From the start till the end, there will be an Aqua Trail, which is a hunt around town to find 12 posters in shops which all sell sustainable and pre-loved treats.
People can put together the coloured letters from each fact and it will make a word that can then be submitted for a chance to win family-friendly goodies.
On August 7 and 13, there will be no entertainment around, people will get to enjoy a quiet day on the beach from 10am to 4pm.
On August 8, Newark Creates will present Eco-themed fun from 10am to 4pm and people can make their own garden with Kerry O’Brien from 10am to 4pm.
The sand sculpture will come to life on August 9 until the end of the day and from 2pm to 2.45pm the Rock Choir will be entertaining the public with some music.
Continuing with music, Steelgen will be performing at the marketplace on August 10 from 10.45am to 11.30am and again from 12.15pm to 1pm.
Family-friendly entertainment Punch and Judy Show will have different sessions during the day, including 11.45am-12.05pm; 1.30pm-2pm and 2.30pm-3pm.
On the first Sunday on the urban beach, August 11, there will be several activities from 10am to 4pm, such as the Eco and Sustainability Market, Newark Creates Eco-themed fun and The Plastic Ocean Show as the whale returns to the square.
Starting the week moving, on August 12, IGNITE will bring from 10am to 11am a Boogie on the Beach.
Throughout the day there will be music performed by Ghostdrinkers and beach sports provided by the YMCA.
On August 14, Madame Galleon, also known as the figurehead of the most infamous pirate ship will be entertaining all with sessions between 10.30am to 3pm.
From 10am to 3.30pm there will be Beach Time Stories provided by Inspire in 30 minute sessions.
To mark the Olympics, which are currently taking place in Paris, there will be Olympic-themed crafts with Inspire from 10am to 12noon and from 1.30pm to 3pm.
On Thursday (August 15), there will be Beach Time Stories split in 30 minute sessions between 10am to 3.30pm and Olympic-themed crafts from 10am to 12noon and from 1.30pm to 3pm.
On August 16, there will be sand sculptures between 10am and 4pm.
Punch & Judy Show will return in time slots between 10.30am and 1.45pm.
A Handmade Theatre Show will be on the marketplace from 11am until 2.20pm with 20 minute performances at a time.
On the last weekend of the beach this year, Saturday, August 17, the day will start at 10am with Creative Influences - Create Your Own Terrarium for a two-hour session.
Soletrader will be performing music at 10am-10.45am and 12.15pm-1pm.
On Sunday, August 18, Newrk Create Eco-themed fun and Forest Cool crafts with Mark Clarke will entertain the day from 10am to 4pm.
To say goodbye to the beach, the last day, Monday, August 19, will start with Beach Sports with the YMCA from 10am to 4pm.
At 11am there will be an hour and a half of fun by the Bubble Entertainer and The Retronauts will be performing live-music fom 12.45pm to 1.15pm and 2pm-2.30pm.
