"Three suspects were located in Newark a short time later and have been arrested.

"Officers will continue speaking to witnesses as they establish the full circumstances and I would urge any witnesses or anyone with CCTV or dash-cam footage to come forward as soon as possible."

Jordan Lee, of JD Nicholson & Son, a butchers next door to the Post Office, said the incident was not something that will worry other local shop staff.

"We didn't hear anything when it happened," he said. "But it is not something you expect to happen around here and it isn't something that we are going to be worried about."

If you have information that could help the enquiry, you are advised to call Nottinghamshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 197 of January 2, 2020. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
