The company building Staythorpe Power Station has scrapped plans for a giant storage area near the site.

Alstom Power applied to Newark and Sherwood District Council for planning permission for a laydown site on a field at Latham Farm, Staythorpe, and a new access road for construction workers to use.

People living nearby protested against the plans.

Alstom Power, which is building the £660m gas-fired power station for RWE npower, said it had listened to objections and would make alternative arrangements for the storage of equipment and supplies.

It still plans to build the access road.

Around 900 cars and ten lorries a day are expected to go to the site.

Miss Deborah Storey, of Behay Gardens, Staythorpe, who led the protest against the storage area, said Alstom had listened to what had been an effective campaign based on reasoned arguments and valid objections.
