Mr Sheppard expresses his disdain for COP26 by writing “lots will be said, but how much will be done?” (News Views, October 14).

The website ukcop26.org says: “Climate change is the greatest risk facing us all... But while the impacts of climate change are devastating, advances in tackling it are leading to cleaner air, creating good jobs, restoring nature and at the same time unleashing economic growth.”

These are powerful words underpinning the stated aim of global net zero emissions by 2050 and a temperature rise of no more than 1.5 degrees.
