Reader's letter: Priorities queried

Having read all the stories about the campaign to ‘save’ Balderton Lake I thought I would have a look at the plans ­— but couldn’t find any.

Instead, I discovered the proposal seems to be for a few kayaks ­— and I mean a few ­— planning to use a small section of the lake for a few short hours at a time, at selected times of the year.

Hardly a massive disruption, surely?

Yet at the same same time, there is an actual planning application just down the road for a development that will see the destruction of several trees, including many with tree preservation orders, and that seems to have had little attention.

Just a few short months ago there was a major campaign to save four trees from the chop.

Where are the priorities? ­— R. MILLER, Newark.
