Reader's letter: Prosperous role
The person who writes your headlines certainly has a keen sense of irony, see A Prosperous Future Awaits Us (As I See It, Advertiser, March 18).
I naively thought you became a councillor out of a sense of civic duty, not as a money-making exercise.
I cannot believe how much these people are paid. It’s no wonder they all want to be re-elected.
I met our local councillor four years ago come May. He seemed a genuine person but what has he achieved during his four-year term, apart from accruing a minimum of £149,844?
Hats off to Mr Peter Jones for bringing those figures to readers’ notice.
I will certainly be putting my cross in the May elections to someone who is prepared to work on my behalf. — CHRIS HOBBY, Newark.
