Coronavirus: Knead Pubs to close The Prince Rupert in Newark





Knead Pubs is closing the doors of its pubs on Sunday night as a result of the coronavirus outbreak.

The company runs The Prince Rupert in Newark, as well as Tobie Norris, The Crown Hotel and Paten in Co in Stamford and Smith's and the Jubilee Garage in Bourne, both in South Lincolnshire, and The Lord Nelson in Oakham in Rutland.

The news was confirmed on Twitter in response to a comment.

Tonight operations manager Ross Dykes said in a statement: "This week has been particularly difficult for us all at Knead Pubs and we have looked at all options to try and maintain both a service to our loyal customers but also more importantly support our fantastic team and colleagues whilst listening to Government guidance.

"With all this in mind we feel that to ensure the safety and health of both our customers and colleagues we intend to close our doors at 6pm on Sunday (March 22).

"We would like to take this opportunity to thank all our customers in Newark, Bourne, Stamford and Oakham for your loyal support. We will miss you all over the next few weeks.... the stories, smiles and antics!!

"Also we would like thank our incredible staff and team within Knead Pubs. Many have been with us for years. We employ families, husbands, wives and now their children! Thank you all for your passion and loyalty and we will endeavour to support you all through this unprecedented and trying time.

"This is only a moment in time and as a community we will all pull through this and come out the other side where Knead Pubs will be waiting for you with an open door, bars well stocked and the same familiar faces.

"Keep safe and look after your loved ones, yourselves and our wonderful towns."

He said meetings are still going on to decide what will happen to staff in the meantime.
