Newark Labour calls meeting at the Holy Trinity Community Centre on Boundary Road, Newark to discuss the return of an A&E to Newark Hospital

A public meeting is to take place this weekend to urge health bosses to reverse the decision to end 24 hour urgent care at Newark Hospital.

Newark Labour has called the meeting, which is set to take place at the Holy Trinity Community Centre on Boundary Road at 3pm, to discuss the return of an A&E to Newark.

The opening hours of the urgent treatment centre were extended for patients between 8am and 10.30pm, seven days a week in March 2024, but a return for a 24-hour service was ruled out.

Representatives from the ICB and the chairman of the Health Scrutiny Committee have been invited to the meeting, and a spokesman for Newark Labour said that the Health Scrutiny Committee would be asked to make a decision as to whether there should be a statutory consultation on the decision to end 24 hour care at the hospital.

Residents will be invited to have their say on whether the changes to the opening hours are working for them.
