Residents asked to have their say on Leaves of Southwell project at Southwell Minister

Ideas for the Leaves Of Southwell project at Southwell Minster have been put out for public consultation.

Residents are being asked for their views before the scheme moves on to its next stage.

The minster was awarded a £1.9m National Lottery Heritage Fund grant towards the implementation of plans that seek to conserve and celebrate the internationally renowned Leaves of Southwell.

The 13th century naturalistic carvings in the Chapter House are among the finest in Europe and have long been considered an inspiration to artists and writers.

The project aims to enable more people to visit and enjoy the Leaves, the minster and its environs, and to secure the fabric of the building.

It includes the renewal of the main east roof and the stabilisation of the Chapter House environment to preserve the stonework.

It is also planned to put lights in the Chapter House for the first time, improve accessibility for all, and enhance the interpretations of the leaves.

The Dean of Southwell, the Very Rev Nicola Sullivan, said: “Throughout the project the team supporting us has been consulting with our communities to test ideas.

“We are now at a point where we would appreciate your feedback on some of the interpretation before the design moves to the next stage.”

People have until 5pm tomorrow to complete the survey.
