A group of pupils at a village primary school that won a competition to create their own film have been presented with a state-of-the-art video camera and tripod as a prize.

Thirty teams from ten schools in the area took part in the competition as part of a primary arts programme at the Magnus School, Newark.

The youngsters had to form their own production company, create a storyboard showing each scene and learn how to edit their silent short films, which were each set to a different song.

All the films were shown to parents and pupils at the Reel Cinema, Newark, before they were judged.

The winning team was Way Ahead Productions from Coddington Primary School.

They are: Georgina Firth, Grace Fox, Ed Fox, Abi Legge, Harriet Simmons, Darcie Horrobin, Emma Setchell, Fred Harvey-Davies, and Lucy Woodward, who are all aged ten.

Their film, Hide And Seek, was set to Mistress Mabel by The Fratellis, and features the pupils wearing fancy dress and hiding from their teacher, Mrs Maree Clark.

Ed, who acted as cameraman and director, said: “I’ve never used a camera before. It was very hard. I had to get them in time.

“My favourite bit was when they did the high five.”

Emma said she enjoyed coming up with the ideas and making the storyboard.

The Magnus School’s community arts co-ordinator, Miss Leanne Phillips, said: “It was their creativity, enthusiasm and film editing skills that made them winners.”

The runners-up were teams from Bishop Alexander Primary, Muskham Primary and Hawtonville Junior schools.
