By Peter Harris

An inter-house singing competition at the Minster School, Southwell, was won by Emily Stutchbury (13).

More than 100 pupils from years seven to 11 in Welbeck, Rufford, Thoresby and Clumber houses auditioned for the competition based on ITV’s popular talent show, X Factor.

Around 150 parents and pupils attended the final in the school theatre.

The competition was judged by the head, Mr Phil Blinston, head of sixth form Mrs Joy Coslett, head of pastoral care Mr Rod Price and head of worship, Mr Andy Vickers.

Joining Emily and Ellie Williams (12) for Rufford in the final were Honor Whitfield (13) and Hana Al-Izi (13) for Welbeck, James Morel (12) and Billy Cotter (12) for Thorseby and Rebeka Whittle (15) and Annis Watts (14) Miranda Hart (13) and Robyn Filep (13) who formed a group called Boutique, for Clumber.

There was a guest appearance by School Of Rock, a band made up of members of staff, who played while the judges decided on the winner.

The finalists’ auditions were played on a big screen before they sang for the judges.

Emily sang Bleeding Heart by last year’s X Factor winner Leona Lewis.

She was presented with a trophy and an i-Pod by Mr Blinston.
