Pupils unite to write mag
Pupils at the Magnus Church of England School, Newark, have launched a new magazine.
About 35 pupils, aged 11 to 18, have been working on the publication, Skoolz Out, since October.
They meet on Wednesdays after school in the library to put together the 20-page magazine, and plan to publish another edition at Easter.
The editor, David Parker (18) who came up with the idea, said: “I think it is good for the school and gives students something to do after school. It also gives the students a voice.”
David, who is applying to study journalism at Sheffield University, said the feedback from pupils was good.
The first edition includes a feature on activities at the school in aid of Children In Need and an interview with the head boy, Ben Saxton (17).
There are also quizzes, a music review, a sports page and an agony aunt column. Pupils can contribute their own work for publication — anything from stories and photographs to jokes or artwork.
The magazine’s treasurer, Katie Harrison (16) said: “The good thing about the magazine is it brings everyone together, from the sixth form down to younger years. Anyone can get involved in it — you can write about anything you want.”
A total of 150 copies have been printed and cost 50p each.
