Pupils’ charity commitment
Primary school pupils organised a week of events to raise money for two charities.
The 11 year six pupils at Kirklington Primary School were supporting Cancer Research UK and the RSPCA.
The ten and 11-year-olds organised games and activities and charged other pupils to take part.
They also held bring and buy sales at lunch and break times.
A similar effort last year raised more than £230. This year the total raised was £313.
One of the events was a disco with a karaoke machine provided by Hope Ford-Wright (10) and a chocolate fountain provided by Georgia Strong (10).
Toby Nadal (11) charged for the use of his video games console, George Hucknall (10) held an electric toy car racing competition and Madison Davis (10) organised cake decorating.
Daisy Fairclough (10) Gemma Hyde (11) and Jessica Bulman (10) held puppet shows for younger pupils. Alec Hampson (11) made fresh doughnuts and Jaswinder Basra (11) taught pupils how to draw characters from The Simpsons.
Rebecca Stow (10) organised a basketball competition and the final event was a toy auction.
The school head, Mrs Tracy Burn-Smith, said: “The children are enterprising and innovative, and have shown great commitment in working as part of a team to benefit others.”
