Pylons removed to improve views as part of Southern Link Road and Middlebeck Development works
Work on a major project has reached another milestone with the demolition of several pylons, which developers say will improve views.
As part of work on the Newark Southern Link Road and the ongoing Middlebeck development, seven overhead electricity pylons have been removed and cabling moved underground.
The network has been diverted to run alongside the new Southern Link Road, before being reconnected to the existing network to via a newly installed terminal pylon.
A final eighth pylon, located near to the Gannets Cafe in Middlebeck, is scheduled for removal in mid-September.
Developers Urban and Civic said the work represents a significant improvement in the visual and operational aspects the new housing scheme.
The removal process has been coordinated to ensure safety and efficiency by first de-rigging the 132KVa cables from the pylons.
Then, guide cables were attached to the top of each pylon, and two of the pylon’s legs are fully cut through, while the other two are partially cut.
These guide cables are then tensioned, allowing the pylon to be safely pulled over before the National Grid team removes the fallen pylons and cables from the site for recycling.
