Newark Castle railway station level crossing barriers left closed for over an hour
People were left queuing on both sides of a level crossing gate as the barrier remained closed for over an hour.
Nottinghamshire Police officers arrived at the Great North Road level crossing at Newark Castle railway station around 3pm, following reports of a closed barrier.
According to British Transport Police, there was a fault with the Castle Railway Barriers as they were locked in the down position.
The barriers reopened around 3.30pm as an engineer arrived at the scene to conduct repairs.
Members of the public have mentioned having been waiting in the heat for over an hour.
A man told the Advertiser that he saw people crossing through the railway tracks to avoid the wait, but that he didn’t want to risk his own safety or being fined.
Train services were running as per usual.
