The case against a former head of planning at Newark and Sherwood District Council, who was charged with rape, has been dismissed.

Mr Michael Evans (54) of Halam Road, Southwell, was accused of raping a woman on March 26.

The case was dismissed by a judge at Derby Crown Court on December 10.

Mr Evans pleaded not guilty when he appeared at Derby Crown Court in October and a trial date was set for April.

Mr Evans left his job with the council by mutual agreement in July.
