Reform UK select Caroline Hinds as candidate for Nottinghamshire County Council Newark West by-election on July 3
Reform UK have selected a candidate to contest an upcoming county by-election.
Following what was described by the party as a “thorough and robust” selection process, Reform’s Newark branch has announced that Caroline Hinds will be standing in Nottinghamshire County Council’s Newark West by-election.
The by-election was triggered after newly-elected Reform councillor, Desmond Clarke, resigned from the position less than a week into the role.
The party then began the process of finding a replacement for Mr Clarke, eventually settling on Ms Hinds, who had previously finished runner up in the Farndon and Trent division as the Reform candidate.
Ms Hinds said: “At the recent County Council election, the people of Newark West gave Reform UK a remit to represent them.
“I intend to repay that faith in Reform and I can promise that I will give all the time that is necessary to fulfil that remit.”
Now retired, Ms Hinds spent 20 years in primary school teaching, remains passionate about education, and said she was committed to doing all that she can to support schools and raise standards.
She added: “We need to see an educational environment based on British values, freedom of speech and good manners so that our next generation can prosper.”
So far, three other candidates have already been announced by their parties.
Keith Girling, of the Local Conservatives, hopes to regain the seat he lost to Reform, Paul Taylor will stand for the Labour Party, and Matthew Spoors is the Green Party candidate.
The date of the Newark West by-election has now been confirmed as Thursday, July 3.
