Relatives arrived at the care home to find their relatives had already been moved to another home
Angry relatives of residents of a care home have spoken out after their loved ones were moved without their knowledge.
Last week, the Advertiser reported that Friary Fields Care Home, in Newark, had closed after an inspection found it was unclean, unsafe and poorly maintained.
The family of two of the residents, who did not want to be named, said that they were informed that their parents would need to be moved to another home within a week.
But they were outraged to discover that council staff had already moved all the residents to new care homes the previous day, without informing their families.
They said: “Our relatives were moved without advising us and without consent, what would have happened if we had changed our minds as to where they were moving to?
“We turned up at Friary Fields on the Saturday to find they had gone. We were very shocked.”
Sue Batty, service director at Nottinghamshire County Council, said: “The provider held a meeting on Monday, September 16, to inform relatives that they were closing Friary Fields Care Home. Our team had to then co-ordinate urgent moves for 20 residents and liaised with relatives.
“The closure of the home was brought forward to Friday September 20, so we were forced to act even faster and move people out that day. We have apologised to any relatives who we were not able to contact about this change.”
