The new ones will be nearby on the corner of the multi-storey carpark behind White Hart Yard.

There is no doubt the toilets have been missed.

Claims that there was adequate alternative provision were contested and a suggestion that toilets in town centre retail and business premises may be available was always going to be a non-starter.

In a double success for campaigners the threat of closure to the toilets in London Road carpark to help pay for the replacement town centre facilities has been lifted.

The only thing to remember will be to have 20p handy in case of an emergency.

Christmas is renowned as a time for giving and the people of Newark and district have shown their generosity once again this year.

Hundreds of toys are going to needy children thanks to the Salvation Army’s annual appeal.

Plenty more have been donated to Sue’s Place, which helps youngsters overcome loss and bereavement.

Many people will have donated to other causes close to their hearts.

There is a case for saying that this time of year has been overcome by commercialism but such kind donations go a long way towards redressing the balance and rekindling the true spirit of Christmas.
