Reader’s letter: Remembering old values
There ought to be a section in your paper to go back in time, and look at society values, and the way Newark use to be, in the last hundred years.
Local history is very important and not many young people seem to bother to learn about the town’s history.
I use to be employed as a ‘phone ad’ girl in the Seventies, and worked in the small office in Appletongate with June Berry, and Joy Griffin.
The way the town has deteriorated has saddened me.
My name was Pauline Oughton, and we took classified adverts over the telephone. Even the history of how newspapers use to print papers would be interesting. It was so different in my day.
I am now 73 years old and live in Little Clacton, but I regularly read the Newark Advertiser.
I appreciate all places change over time, but bringing news about the good the bad and the ugly, is very important.
Making people want to know more and become interested in their environment is so important. — PAULINE ELY, Little Clacton, Essex
