The Dukeries Academy, New Ollerton is hosting a remembrance concert for former pupils and staff in late September
A remembrance concert for former staff and students of a school is taking place this month.
The Dukeries Academy, New Ollerton is hosting a remembrance and reunion concert on September 23.
The concert is in honour of Michelle Pickering, a former pupil and peripatetic woodwind teacher who died in April this year. It also remembers other members of the Dukeries family.
The concert starts at 7 pm at the school’s Concert Hall.
It is being organised by a small group of staff and former staff, under the direction of Malcolm Bevan, a now-retired music teacher.
“We are all one big family and we have lost too many people over the years, too many to name,” said Claire Hyatt, one of the organisers.
She added: “Michelle was very popular at the school, she was very talented and it was a shock to all of us.”
The free concert music will range from classical marches to Mancini magic, performed by past musicians and colleagues.
