Winthorpe Estate Residents Group urge residents to attend Have A Field Day event
Residents are being urged to make the most of Newark’s green spaces and “have a field day” next weekend.
Winthorpe Estate Residents Group (WRG) has organised a Have A Field Day event, which will take place on Cedar Avenue playing fields on Saturday, July 6, and all sports clubs and associations that might be interested in promoting their club or sport on the day are being urged to get in touch.
The event has been organised in a bid to bring the community together to collectively enjoy the outdoors, and residents are encouraged to take a picnic, fly kites, and play games.
There is plenty of grass, but there is also a small hard court for visitors to play cricket, tennis, netball or basketball.
Newark Castle Archers will be attending the event, and will provide Soft Archery equipment for visitors to try out for free.
Paul Baggaley said: “Newark’s playing fields and green and open spaces are under threat. They are spaces where children first learn to run, cycle, kick and catch a ball.
“They are free and easily accessible and provide the foundation for healthy activity and progression into sport. They are also spaces where people can walk and jog, relax and socialise, they are as much a part of the local infrastructure as roads, schools and hospitals and they can be so easily lost, never to be replaced.
“If you feel that you and your club or organisation can help make the event a success by arranging an activity, then please contact me by phone or email and let me know what you would like to do and when.”
