Balderton residents awarded communal green space funding through Newark and Sherwood District Council's Community Chest scheme
Green fingered tenants of Bakewell Court, Balderton were recently awarded funding to freshen up a communal space.
The funding was thanks to Newark and Sherwood District Council's Community Chest scheme — which is aimed at encouraging projects to make social housing areas cleaner, safer and greener.
Residents were joined by staff from Tenancy and Estates to work on improving communal spaces in the area. This work involved clearing weeds, overgrown hedges and litter picking.
The improvements to the communal outside space included creating raised beds, planting them with flowers and installing picnic benches.
Volunteer, Myles Roe, worked throughout the morning to provide invaluable help. As a thank you for his efforts, he was rewarded him with a £10 gift voucher by the District council.
Residents looking at funding their own community-focused project or local groups needing funding can apply for a new Community Grant Scheme though the District council website
