Newark residents share their opinions on what could improve their town
There are always improvements to be made that can boost a town's popularity, from upgrading the road network to better shops.
The advertiser went out to ask Newark residents their thoughts on what the council could do.
“Car parking here is really expensive and if we have a retail park down there with free parking, people will just go there,” said Pete Flowers, a market trader.

“If the council put free parking I think that it would give the town a chance to get more people in, two hours gives people a chance to have a walk around shops and the market.”
The general public we spoke to said that Newark Royal Market needs more investment because it has declined from its heyday.
Regular visitors to the town Dominic and Hilary Henigha said: “Newark is a lovely little town, but 30 years ago it had plenty of independent shops and a lively market,
“But all towns are on the same boat right now.”
Free bus rides, free parking, more road work and even the same rent for market stalls were a few of the main topics mentioned by residents.
“In the old days when it used to be all free buses Nottingham to Newark and then it changed Newark to Nottingham and that’s when we started to lose customers.” said Graham Moir, a stall owner on the market.
