Wood fired pizza restaurant opens on Cartergate replacing former bakery

A business owner has decided to abandon the bakery side of the business and open a wood-fired pizza and pasta restaurant.

Harem Taifur, opened Vero Pizzeria in early December, replacing his formed business The Artisan Bakery at 27c Cartergate, Newark, which opened in July 2024.

With over 20 years of experience in pizza making and owning shops in Germany and The Netherlands, Mr Taifur decided to invest in what he knows best — pizza.

“Newark’s geographical location and excellent transport links make it an ideal location for business,” he said.

He added: “We also believe there are no more shops like this around here.

“The type of wood used in the oven adds subtle smoky flavours that are impossible to replicate with other cooking methods.”

The owner believes that woo-fired pizzas are tastier and require fewer additives, which retain more nutrients in the toppings.

The shop will be open Monday to Saturday from 12noon until 8pm and from 2pm to 8pm on Sundays.

More lunch and dinner options are set to be added to the menu in the early future.
