Reunion call
Two old school friends who have kept in touch for more than 60 years are trying to find their fellow class-mates for a reunion.
Mr Bryan Cobb (74) of Lime Grove, Newark, and Mrs Faye Bamford (74) of Barrel Hill Road, Sutton-on-Trent, both attended the Mount Church of England Primary School, Newark.
They each have a photograph of two different classes, both taken in either 1946 or 1947.
Mrs Bamford, who was Miss Lale at school, kept in touch with many of the teachers and also has registers of pupils dating to 1943.
Mrs Bamford said: “I have happy memories of the school. We were a good bunch.”
Both remember the different activities on offer at the school, which they attended until the age of 15. The activities included dancing, gymnastics and helping on the school allotments.
The Mount school site was split into infants, juniors and seniors when they attended and the pair were due to leave at 14, but the government then raised the leaving age to 15.
Mr Cobb said: “We do not want people to hesitate, even if they are not on the photos.”
He said they could think of at least 12 people in the class who, for some reason, were not in the class photograph.
Anyone who wants to attend the reunion should contact Mr Cobb on 01636 676078 or Mrs Bamford on 01636 821553.
