Rise criticised

By NewarkAdvertiser Reporter

Just when the public sector needs to find savings, and when soldiers, police, prison guards and others are made to wait for their pay rises, suddenly the Government has found a money tree for themselves.

MPs are getting a £1,364 pay rise and the unelected House of Lords £5 extra a day, bringing their daily pay to £305, tax free, plus travel expenses.

The Taxpayers’ Alliance says it is difficult to see how this rise can be justified when the entire public sector needs to find savings. — D. HINCHLEY, Acacia Road, Balderton.
