Newark: River levels continue to rise and have not yet peaked
River levels in Newark are continuing to rise and have not yet peaked.
The district council said flooding was expected throughout this evening (Friday) and into tomorrow.
It anticipated the peak would be similar to the floods experienced in February last year.
Teams from Newark and Sherwood District Council, along with police and fire crews, continue to make contact with those at risk — offering support on the ground and over the phone.
People at risk are exempt from the current coronavirus restrictions. However, if people are forced to leave their homes, social distancing is still being recommended — as well as regular handwashing and wearing a face covering.
There are several flood warnings and road closures in place across Nottinghamshire. Flood warnings and road closures have been put in place for a reason — don't ignore them.
