Update: The A617 Kelham Road has now reopened after police attended an incident this afternoon (March 27).

A road closure is in place at Newark while police deal with an incident.

The A617 is closed between the A46 Cattle Market roundabout to Kelham Bridge.

Nottinghamshire Police say the closure is due to an ongoing incident.

Several emergency vehicle are reported to be in attendance near the River Trent at Kelham.

The police say “We are asking motorists to please avoid the area.

“Emergency services are currently on scene so, please plan alternate routes to avoid delays.
