Full closure of Hawton Road, Newark, extended in relation to ongoing construction of the Southern Link Road and the Middlebeck development

The reopening of a road closed for six months has been delayed.

Hawton Road — from its junction with Newark Road to its junction with Riverside Road — had been closed to pedestrians and vehicles since February, with work being carried out to rebuild and realign it with the ongoing construction of the Southern Link Road and the Middlebeck development.

The road was planned to partially reopen by August 19, then by 6pm this tomorrow (August 30), but will now reopen to traffic from 23:59pm this Saturday (August 31).

However, the public footway will remain closed until 23:59pm on Tuesday, September 3, with no access to pedestrians until then.

One of the developers, Breheny Civil Engineering, stated that due to “unforeseen circumstance” this full road closure has had to be extended by a few extra days.

An alternative route remains in place until then, from Hawton Lane, via Fosse Road, Farndon Road, Boundary Road, Hawton Road and vice versa.

Traffic management signals will be used after the partial reopening, with Hawton Road scheduled to fully reopen without restrictions in early 2025.
