Rotary Club of Newark presents cheque to Think Children
The president of the Rotary Club of Newark presented a £2,000 cheque as the final donation of his presidential year.
As his last charity donation before relinquishing the presidency in July, president David Shannon handed the cheque to Danielle Metcalf (pictured) of Think Children.
Following an earlier donation last October, the Newark club has raised £3,000 for the Newark-based charity.
During the mid-1990s, following a request from schools, the charity was started to specialise in helping children aged eight to 14 facing difficult times. Today, it works mainly with junior school children aged four to 11. The success of the charity has seen demands from well outside Newark, covering much of the county.
Due to the hardship of fundraising through the pandemic, the Rotary president decided to focus on a single charity for his term of office, meaning the funds raised could have more impact.
Over the next few months, the club will begin a recruitment campaign to encourage new members and friends to help with future fundraising.
As in the past, there will be the Christmas mulled wine stall, cash collections, and other fundraising events to help achieve their Service Above Self motto.
