Reader's letter: Safer option

I read with interest of the opening of a community hub at Chatham Court, Albert Street, Newark.

Of particular interest was the statement of Eleanor Smalley, burglary reduction officer at Nottinghamshire Police: “Its going to be a go-to point for residents. Just knowing its open will make residents feel safer.” David Lloyd expressed similar sentiments.

Surely the same could be said of a police station in the community it serves?

We open a community hub so residents feel safer but move the main police station to the edge of town away from residents. Something of a contradiction.

In his letter to the Advertiser, the Chief Constable says: “Operationally I am satisfied the location of Castle House would work well for the police.”

I’m sure it would, but what about the public at large Chief Constable? — GRAHAM E. DICKENSON, via email.
