Cyclists, a farmer, a crow and donkeys are among the scarecrows on display at houses in Southwell.

More than 20 have been put up by residents of Westhorpe as part of the first Westhorpe Scarecrow Festival.

The event has been organised by Mr and Mrs John Walker, of The Holme.

It will end tomorrow with a barbecue at the home of Miss Vicki Hayward, of Westhorpe.

Miss Hayward said the event started with a few scarecrows but the number had grown during the week.

She said: “It really started to take off. We have had a lot of people walking down here to have a look at the scarecrows.”

Among those displaying a scarecrow are Mr and Mrs Hugh Fry of Westhorpe.

Mr Fry said his creation, which has been named Fred, took about an hour to make and was created from a lamp, plastic bags and plastic gloves.

Mr Fry said: “It is the first time I have ever made a scarecrow.”
