The Boathouse at Farndon, formerly The Farndon Ferry, set to reopen under new ownership from June 17

A popular and scenic riverside venue is preparing to reopen its doors, after being saved by new ownership.

The Boathouse at Farndon, formerly known as The Farndon Ferry, has been taken over by independent publican Kane Oliver, who is also responsible for the successful revival of The Lion at Brinsley.

The village venue is set to reopen next Monday (June 17) following a rapid transformation which aimed to “breathe new life” into the venue while maintaining what the community loved.

It comes after the former Farndon Ferry venue suddenly closed earlier this year, leaving staff out of work and customers in the dark.

But within weeks, Kane and his new team stepped in and turned the situation around, offering former staff their jobs back, and on improved pay.

“It’s been a tough time for the team who were left in limbo,” said Kane.

“But we saw something really special here — a beautiful venue, a passionate local following, and a team who cared deeply.

“We’re proud to have stepped in, saved jobs, and now get to breathe new life into The Boathouse at Farndon.”

The relaunched kitchen will be run by new head chef Shaun Davey, who brings over 30 years of culinary experience after working at high end establishments including Crowne Plaza and Warner Hotels.

“The Boathouse is such an exciting project,” said Shaun.

“The riverside location is unbeatable, the team has real heart, and the food we’re creating reflects everything I love — seasonal ingredients, bold flavours, and beautiful presentation.

“I can’t wait for guests to taste what we’ve been working on.”

A new menu will feature a host of locally sourced dishes, from modern British classics with a twist, to elevated comfort food — all served in a warm and welcoming setting overlooking the River Trent.

General manager, Leonardo Perisi, is just one member of staff returning to lead front-of-house.

“It feels like coming home,” he said. “The Boathouse has always had a special place in the community, and I’m thrilled to be part of its new chapter.

“We’ve got fantastic food, great service, and plenty of exciting nights planned — including my own Monday Italian evenings.”

Bookings and reservations are now being taken for dates from Monday, June 17 onwards, via the Boathouse at Farndon website.
