Gunthorpe C of E Primary School celebrates Chinese New Year with activities




A school has been celebrating Chinese New Year with a day filled with fun themed activities.

Today, January 29, the world welcomes the Year of the Snake in the Chinese calendar, and at Gunthorpe C of E Primary School children had the opportunity to learn about this unique occasion.

The pupils in the infant school got creative by making their own paper lantern and crafting snakes. They also explored textures and shaped shapes, while making noodle art.

The celebrations continued with a food tasting of tasty treats provided by Yeung Sing restaurant in Bingham, who also supplied decorations for the classroom.

The highlight of the day was the dramatic dragon dance, where everyone got involved and had fun, waving the dragon high and moving to the beat.

Some of the junior children who joined the infant class to to share their own Chinese New Year traditions and how they celebrate at home.

School head, Mel Brown, said: “At our school, every day is filled with exciting learning opportunities, and we’re thrilled to offer a space for young learners to explore and grow.

“We’re excited to announce that we still have places available in our infant classes! Come join the fun and be part of our next celebration.”
