Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy pupils celebrate their heroes
Children dressed up to celebrate their personal heroes and discuss how certain jobs impact society.
Inspired by events such as Armed Forces Day and Thank A Hero Day, the pupils of Bilsthorpe Flying High Academy dressed up as their heroes, which ranged from nurses to astronauts.
The school’s head, Miss Sam Leek, said throughout the term the children had learned about the concept of legacy and different types of hero and discussed how they could all leave a positive legacy.
She said the school’s curriculum was designed to “celebrate individuality, diversity and ambition to drive our children to aspire to reach for the stars; to look for extraordinary in the ordinary and to know that not all heroes wear capes.”
The children went to school dressed in a range of outfits and shared their own personal heroes.
Isla Tuck thought of family, saying: “I’ve come dressed as my mum because she really is special”
Lilia Baker said: “I have come dressed as a scientist because I really like science, and scientists really help people.”
Didi Ferdinandus came dressed as her favourite artist: “Today I have come dressed as Frida Kahlo, because me and my mum idolise her.”
Children discussed what a hero is and how people can display heroic behaviour as well as learning about Armed Forces Day.
Site manager Shaun Martwich taught the children some basic marching and saluting skills.
