A school, where Travellers have entered the site illegally, continues to operate as normal but says pupil safety is its primary concern.

Around ten caravans pulled on to a grassed area at Newark Academy, off London Road, Balderton, overnight.

The school said they entered illegally by cutting through a padlock on the boundary gates.

The school's head, Chris Fisher, said: "The school will continue to operate as normal and the safety of our pupils is our primary concern.

"We have advised our pupils not to approach the group and staff will be on duty to accompany pupils as they arrive and depart the school site.

"We are currently working with the relevant authorities to remove the group from the school premises as quickly as possible.”

Newark and Sherwood District Council has said it is working with the school over the issue.
