Students from Suthers School in Fernwood have celebrated their GCSE achievements — and are now looking forward to a bright future.
In a year where the school secured an Ofsted judgment of ‘good’ in all areas, leaders were delighted to announce another set of fantastic exam results.
The school has secured strong results again this year at 4+ and 5+ in English and Maths.
Students have secured strong outcomes overall with notable achievements in Engineering, Sports Studies and the creative arts subjects.
Headteacher Nic Watkin said: “I am very proud of every single student and what they have achieved.
“These results reflect their tenacity, optimism and hard work demonstrated in lessons and during home learning.
“We are pleased our students will be able to continue their education on their chosen pathway.”
Student Mahnoor Shahzad who got four 9s in Creative iMedia, Engineering, Business and English Literature said: “I feel really relieved, it is done with now.
“The five years of hard work have now finished, I don’t have to look back at it anymore. There are new chapters in my life starting now with A-levels and I am excited about that.
“I am going to Newark Academy sixth form and I am going to do Chemistry, Biology, Maths and Physics.
“I am also doing an EPQ and hopefully I get into a medical university after that.”
Another student who made their family proud was Kestra Parkes, who is now looking forward to a future of performance.
She said: “I am very happy, I was a bit scared and even cried in the car before I came in but I managed to get an 8 in maths which I am really pleased and I have done better in art than I thought I was going to.
“I am going to do performing arts and music tech as A-levels, as well as maths.
“In the future, I want to be able to just perform because I love performing.”
Bianca Newsome, who is leaving for London for her A-levels, was both surprised and excited with her grades.
She achieved a 9 in French and an 8 in English, History and Music.
She added: “I don’t know what I was expecting really apart from the fact that I wasn’t expecting to pass maths but I passed it.
“I have got all the grades that I need to get where I want.
“I am going to do A-levels in London, I am going to do Music, Drama and English Literature.
“It is pretty nerve-racking but I am very excited.”
Dom Lynas, senior assistant head, acknowledged how the year group has demonstrated "The Suthers Way" through some very challenging times and how it was great to see them secure some outstanding results.
He would like to congratulate all students and thank all our staff along with all parents/carers for their unwavering support and commitment over the last 5 years.
