John Hunt Primary School students took part in a shoe box appeal Give Love In A Box This Christmas organised by Teams4U

Shoes boxes filled with treats and essential items by children across the Newark and Southwell areas will be delivered to children in Romania in time for them to have a special Christmas.

Pupils from John Hunt Primary School, Balderton, are among those to take part in the scheme, Give Love In A Box This Christmas, an appeal organised by charity, Teams4U.

Ian Walker and his wife Janet of Little Carlton, who help to organise the appeal in this area, visited the school last month to tell the children about their work with the charity which helps vulnerable children in nurseries, hospitals and orphans in Eastern Europe.

The head, Mrs Lisa Mole, said the children had watched a video of the shoe boxes arriving in Romania.

"Seeing the pure joy and excitement on the children's faces we decided to support this Christmas appeal," she said.

"The children realised a small shoebox can have a big impact."

Boxes have also been collected from many other schools in the area including Manners Sutton Primary School, Averham; Mount Church of England Primary, Newark; Muskham Primary; Sutton-on-Trent Primary; St Michael's Church of England Primary, Farnsfield; and Halam Church of England Primary.
